Nicolas Simon holds a PhD in History from the University Saint-Louis – Brussels (2017). Between 2017 and 2019, he was F.R.S-FNRS Postdoctoral Researcher at the UCLouvain (Centre d’histoire du droit et de la justice). From 2019 until December 2020 he was Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellow at the Casa de Velàzquez and Associate Member of the Madrid Institue for Advanced Studies (COLEX Project).

He is the head of two departments at the Royal Academy of Belgium : "Research and Partnerships" (since 2021) and "Library, Archives and Special Collections" (since 2024)

Nicolas focuses his research on the history of the legislation during the 16th and 17th century in the Habsburg Low Countries which were part of the Spanish Empire. He is currently investigating the impact of print on the dissemination of laws in the Habsburg Low Countries to better understand the process of political communication in Early Modern Era.
