Suid-Afrikaanse Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns

The South African Academy for Science and Arts - originally the South African Academy of Languages, Letters and Arts - was founded on July 2, 1909.

At that time, the aim was to preserve and help the development of the Dutch language (including Afrikaans), literature, arts and history in South Africa. At present time, the South African Academy of Sciences and Arts is a multidisciplinary organization that has become known over the years as a result of the regular awarding of Literary Prizes (as the Hertzog Prize), and other prestigious awards, its publications (two regular magazines and many other publications), the work of its Language Commission on the standardization of Afrikaans, the many thematic dictionaries and terminological lists compiled and published by members of the Academy .
